Church History
Welcome to Ellwood City
On September 8, 1893, Rev. Harvey H. Bair, a Local Preacher and mill worker, organized the First United Methodist Church of Ellwood City. The new church in the new manufacturing town had a membership of 25. Since then, First Church has been a part of the Ellwood City community: growing as the town grew; suffering as the town suffered; struggling as the community struggled; surviving and standing proud just as the people have.
Our first building, constructed in 1896, was on the corned or Fourth Street and Park Avenue.
In 1926, we moved to our present site and have been know as "the church across from the high school."
We have always tried to be a warm, open, inviting place of worship, fellowship, faith, hope, commitment, service, and spirituality.
